I am very fond of music. In fact, some of my best ideas for the story have come about while listening to music, and this is, I think, quite evident at times. While listening to some of my older CDs, I realized that some of the characters' relationships were well-defined by a song. So, for your reading pleasure, are the songs (and their lyrics) that I feel best define the story and its characters. More to come, when I have time. Lyrics provided by stlyrics.com and and azlyrics.com. I don't own the songs, music, or lyrics.
Overall story: Wicked soundtrack, "For Good." A recurring theme in "When Cliques Collide" is changes and how people affect each other.
ELPHABA
I'm limited:
(Spoken)Just look at me –
I'm limited
And just look at you -
You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
(spoken) For both of us
(sung) Now it's up to you:
GLINDA
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you:
Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good
ELPHABA
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you:
GLINDA
Because I knew you:
BOTH
I have been changed for good
ELPHABA
And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for
GLINDA
But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share
BOTH
And none of it seems to matter anymore
GLINDA (overlapping Elphaba)
Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes the sun.
Like a stream the meets a boulder halfway through the wood.
ELPHABA (overlapping Glinda)
Like a ship blown from its mooring by a wind off the sea.
Like a seed dropped by a bird in the wood.
BOTH
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?
GLINDA
And because I knew you:
ELPHABA
Because I knew you:
BOTH
Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.
Charise and S: O-Town, "All or Nothing." Yes, I feel that this sugary, overplayed song describes them quite well. I mean, just read the lyrics with them in mind!
I know when he's been on your mind
That distant look is in your eyes
I thought with time you'd realize it's over, over
It's not the way I choose to live
And something somewhere's got to give
As sharing this relationship gets older, older
You know I'd fight for you but how can I fight someone who isn't even there
I've had the rest of you now I want the best of you I don't care if that is not fair
Cuz I want it all
Or nothing at all
There's nowhere left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never
Is it all
Or are we just friends
Is this how it ends
With a simple telephone call
You leave me here with nothing at all
There are times it seems to me
I'm sharing you with memories
I feel it in my heart but I don't show it, show it
Then there's times you look at me
As though I'm all that you can see
Those times I don't believe it's right, I know it , know it
Don't make me promises, baby, you never did know how to keep them well
I've had the rest of you now I want the best of you, it's time to show and tell
Cuz I want it all
Or nothing at all
There's nowhere left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never
Is it all
Or are we just friends
Is this how it ends
With a simple telephone call
You leave me here with nothing at all
Cuz you and I
Could lose it all if you've got no more room
No room inside for me in your life
Cuz I want it all
Or nothing at all
There's nowhere left to fall
It's now or never
Is it all
Or nothing at all
There's nowhere left to fall
When you reach the bottom it's now or never
Is it all
Or are we just friends
Is this how it ends
